Dave (also known on the football pitch as the Galley Man, and by Sir Galleyhead or Galleyhad on the mountain slopes) passed away on Thursday April 9th 2026 at 11:00am. He was surrounded by family at La Maison de soins Palliatifs d’Ottawa when he passed at the age of 63 years old after a lengthy battle with leukemia (AML). He is survived by Ingrid - his darling wife of 30 years, his beloved sons; eldest Charlie and wife Sara, youngest Jack and wife Malyssa, his loving sister Kathryn (Fiddy) and husband Graham (Fiddy), cousin Tracey (Nelson) and husband Keith (Aymes), aunt Brenda (Nelson), mother in-law Yvonne (Beach) and husband Peter (Beach), sister in-law Anna (Cooper), husband Steven (Cooper) and their children Daisy, Rudi and William. Predeceased by father George and mother Marie. Dave will be sorely missed by all that knew him, however many fond memories will forever outshine the shadow left in his absence. He was known for his brilliant mind and working exceptionally hard at all that he did until the very end. Dave served in her Majesty’s Royal Air Force (RAF) and built a proliferative post service career as an engineer in the defence industry. When he wasn’t travelling the world for work, he could always be found gardening or landscaping, fishing, sailing, playing or watching footy, skiing, sharing a curry and a pint with his mates, or hunting the streets of Norwich for the perfect meat pie. Dave always loved a challenge such as competing in marathons and the occasional triathlon, climbing mountains or running up the down escalator. He thoroughly enjoyed blues guitar, old western movies, James Bond, starting arguments, winning arguments, Indian curry, English ale and a proper single malt. Dave worked hard, played hard, and sought adventure in every waking moment. Please wish Dave the best on his next adventure.
The Galley family would like to extend a special thank you to:
As per Dave’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or celebration of life. If you wish to honor Dave, please feel free to raise a glass in his memory - he would surely appreciate the cheer. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to La Maison de soins Palliatifs d’Ottawa.
