David passed away peacefully after a short battle with pneumonia with family by his side.
David is survived by his brother Wayne (Yvonne Murphy), and sisters Susan Litchfield, Janice Niven (Claude, Mitchell, Owen) and Pattie (Mike Brenning) and by his step-daughter Catherine Fortin LeFaivre (Adrian Schut) and grandchildren Sofia, Patrick and Leo. He also leaves behind countless loyal friends around the world.
Dave (aka Dave the Wave) was a tremendously generous man towards his family and his many friends. It was evident that it brought him joy to help others. Planning trips (especially those involving beaches and palm trees), golfing, gardening, reading and making new friends (especially at an ‘establishment’ near a beach) was happiness for Dave.
Professionally, David earned the respect of colleagues throughout the commercial real estate industry as a leader in his field for several decades, including co-founding Colliers Ottawa in 1992.
David had a gift for finding laughter in everyday moments, never shying away from an adventure, and delighted others with his sharp wit and curious mind. His unique spirit will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
An event to honour Dave’s life will be planned for the fall, with more details to come.
