Darryl Lee Kruger passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2026, with his daughter Tara and his beloved buddy, Spud, by his side. His passing was gentle, surrounded by the comfort of home and the love of those closest to him.
Darryl was the cherished son of the late Gordon and Margaret (Robb) Kruger. He was a loving brother to Karen (Jim) Wood and was predeceased by his sister, Wendy Kruger. He was a devoted father to Tara Wagner (Richard) and was predeceased by his son, Christopher Kruger. Darryl was a proud and loving grandfather to Jesse, Brittney, Taylor, and Brooke, each of whom brought him great joy. He was also a nephew to Donald (Nancy) Kruger.
Darryl shared close and meaningful friendships with Norman Pulker and Paul Reese, friendships that brought laughter, loyalty, and companionship throughout his life.
Baseball was not just a pastime for Darryl—it was a lifelong passion. He lived and breathed the game, spending many years playing, coaching, photographing, and faithfully watching baseball at every level. His love for sports also extended to car racing, with a particular fondness for NHRA drag racing.
One of Darryl’s greatest joys was his constant companion, Spud, his beloved cockatoo. Wherever Darryl went, Spud was often by his side—whether to baseball games, doctor’s appointments, restaurants, grocery shopping, or simply a stroll through the mall. Their bond was special and unmistakable. Spud will surely miss his grandpa dearly.
Darryl will be remembered for his quiet strength, his passions, and the deep love he held for his family, friends, and faithful feathered companion. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will live on in the stories shared and the love he gave so freely.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Darryl may be made to the Grand River Cancer Centre.
