It is with great sadness the family of Daphne Disley share she passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in her 86th year with family at her side on the evening of Monday November 11,2024 at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario.
Daphne Sylvia Anne Shorey was born in London England on September 3,1939 to Edward Harold Shorey and May (Walker) Shorey. Dear sister of predeceased siblings Janet Carruthers (Dennis), Edward (Ted) Shorey(Adele) and Patricia (Ernest) Croshaw.
With a characteristic spirit of adventure Daphne came to Canada in 1961 on a holiday with her friend Veronica. While staying with Janet and Dennis she met and married the love of her life Eric (Rick) Disley , and they built a new life “across the pond” for 50 brilliant years of marriage.
Aunt Daph will be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews: Sandra (Colin), John, Deborah (Christopher), Louise (Jim), Helen (Paul), Peter, Jane and their families. Also dearly missed by so very many friends from near and far who were such a special part of hers and Rick’s lives over the years.
Most recently Daphne joined the community of Amica Little Lake where she nurtured new friendships and embraced a renewed social life with enthusiasm.
Daphne was smart, adventurous, athletically accomplished, incredibly stylish and full of fun. She embodied the term ‘young at heart’ and had a fabulous laugh. In her career she was a respected and successful professional. In her retirement she volunteered for the May Court Club and RVH auxiliary. She was a phenomenal golfer well into her 80’s. Daphne cherished and cared for so many friends and truly enjoyed their company.
Throughout their life together Daphne and Rick gave their best to all they did, worked hard and lived well. With their family and friends they were generous, warm and welcoming, leaving fabulous stories and memories. They lived a full and rich life.
Daphne and Rick were especially devoted to all of their beloved animals that became a treasured part of their family, and are generous supporters of many animal charities.
Special thanks to the warm team at Amica Little Lake, and to Dr. Q. Li for her enduring kindness and care over the years.
In keeping with Daphne’s wishes a private cremation has taken place.
In honour of Daphne a celebration of her and her life will be held in the spring at Amica Little Lake. Details to follow shortly.
Daphne touched so may people throughout her life with her generous and vibrant nature.
If desired please consider donation in Daphne’s honour to an animal charity such as the OSPCA, Procyon Wildlife, The Barrie May Court Club or The RVH auxiliary. She was a sparkling person whose presence and influence will long be cherished and remembered.
