With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel Barkwell, aged 67, on March 17, 2026, after a long and brave battle with Lewy Bodies Dementia.

Beloved husband of Kathryn, married for 45 years. Loving father of Sarah (Nick), and grandfather of Owen, Elliot, and Finlay. Lovingly remembered by his siblings Jane, and John (Michelle), as well as nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Garland and Doris Barkwell.

Dan grew up in the small village of Kinmount, Ontario. He loved playing hockey with his older brother John, and playing various yard games, like kick the can, with his sister Jane, and their neighbours. He also enjoyed fishing with his father in the Burnt River, and playing with his dog Boots.

Dan moved to the city as a teenager and began his career at Lansing Buildall (later Rona), where he worked for 40 years. In 1980, he married Kathryn. They welcomed their daughter Sarah a year later. Dan enjoyed annual trips to Florida, conversations with friends, movie nights with family, and spending time in his hometown of Kinmount. He loved doting on his 3 grandsons who lovingly referred to him as "Bearpaw". Daniel was a kind and quiet soul who loved his family and was a great friend to all who knew him, and by whom he will be dearly missed.

The family would like to express their sincerest thank you to Matthews House Hospice, where Dan lived out his final days with dignity, and surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 441), 5074 Haliburton County Rd 503, Kinmount, ON, K0M 2A0.
