It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Mama, Claudette Cyr (Smith) of Vernon Ontario, on October 10, 2025, at the Winchester Hospital. This unexpected sudden loss has left a void in our family, amongst her friends and in her community. Known to many as “Mama” she was a daughter to the late Gerald Cyr and Jeannette (nee Veilleux), Wife to the late Mark Smith, Mother to Natalie and Nicholas Smith, Mother-in-law to Marcia Gamble, Sister to Julie (nee Cyr) Rufiange (Bruce Rufiange), Louise (nee Cyr) Stevens (Carol Stevens) and the late Richard Cyr. Grandmother and origin of “Mama” (she was 39 when she became a grandmother in 1994 and refused to be called Grandma, Mere-Mere or Granny…. Her first grandchild Julia solved that by only being able to say “Mama”, not to mention, she absolutely loved the sitcom Dinosaurs from 1991 “Not the Mama” she would giggle each time it was said, and so it was instant… the legendary MAMA was born.) Joshua was to follow along with Hunter, Nathan, Addison and Madison. Also loved by many nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws… Her friends were Framily and they were ALWAYS welcome in her home. She held a lifetime of epic memories sourced from the blessings, adventures, challenges, and everything life had to offer, she took it to the max. Mama was the epitome of a badass that loved fiercely and is UNFORGETTABLE!
First baby born in Ottawa, January 1st, 1955, and raised in the Eastview area, she became a familiar figure meeting several of whom would become lifelong friends at the McArthur Plaza. She later graduated from Larocque Business College and worked as office admin with the NRC/RCEA. where Mrs. Cavinaugh was her mentor. From office management, tenant associations, and municipal elections (she ran twice) … She ultimately fulfilled her lifetime dream of becoming an entrepreneur in the restaurant industry and in 2002 she opened Eats-n-Treats in Vernon. Everyone soon had their own stories about, and memories of, the Legendary MAMA… Woofy Paws will forever be fondly remembered along with all her amazing culinary delights. Her food was made with love and served with a smile. Her door was always open, and she was known for opening up after hours for some select fave regulars, pizza at midnight to help end a night of festivities for the local fellas she watched grow up. She was truly a one-of-a-kind gem.
Clo, Beatrice, Aunt Culdette, Mama, Mummy, Sis, were some of the endearing terms she was affectionately referred to… To say the least, she is LEGENDARY, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, smoking her doobies and rocking her tunes. She is now reunited with many loved onesshe had been missing dearly, she rides, dances, signs and continues to guide us from the otherside until we meet again. It was an honour to call her mom and I would choose her again in aheartbeat. Thank you Mummy for the influence, examples and unconditional love you gave usall. Hugs to heaven xo
