It is with a heavy heart that Christie Poirier announces the passing of her cherished mother, Christina (Chris) Poirier on February 28, 2025 at Joseph Brant Hospital. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Joseph (Joe) Poirier.
Chris will be fondly remembered for her love of a good joke and sense of humour; her boisterous laugh; her desire to spend time with family and friends; her joy to bake sweets for others (especially at Christmas and for those who supported her cravings for cherry cheesecake!); her ability to respectfully express her opinions; her zest for life; and above all, spending time with her devoted daughter, Christie. Everyone who knew Chris and Christie would agree they had the deepest of respect and love for one another and truly treasured their mother-daughter relationship.
Chris was born in Kingston, Ontario and grew up in a warm and fun-filled house with her parents and 5 siblings in Burlington and Mississauga. Chris spent the majority of her working years alongside her husband Joe, as managers of residential complexes in Mississauga and Burlington, Ontario. Upon Joe’s retirement, Chris followed Joe back to Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, trading their weekends away fishing at their trailer on Pigeon Lake, Ontario for a home on Cape Breton Island surrounded by the sea. It is in Cheticamp where Chris, at the age of 59, graduated from Cape Breton Business College as a CCA (Continuous Care Assistant) and bestowed her expertise and kindness upon the residents of Foyer Pere Fiset until her retirement. Chris spent the last few years of her retirement living in Ontario to be close to Christie and reconnect with family and friends. Chris particularly enjoyed going out for breakfast followed by car rides in the country with Christie and attending afternoon barbecues surrounded by those she loved.
Chris lived at Bonnie Place 2 in Burlington from January 2024 until her passing. With her outgoing personality she made many friends there and often went to the weekly “teas” and played Bingo in the evenings. Chris was supported at Bonnie Place 2 by the amazing PSWs who work there. A few of her favourites were Tanya, Stephania, Pel, Christiana & Sandra who took loving care of her and for that the family is forever grateful.
Chris will be sadly missed by her daughter Christie and her siblings Linda Blanchard, Ron Moulton (Marie), Debbie Cress (Rick), as well as her sister-in-law’s Bonnie Moulton and Sherry Moulton. Chris will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, grandchildren (Michael, Mathew, Joseph, Joshua, Amanda, Aaron and Jacob), great-grandchildren and cherished friends. Chris also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Rose Ann Carvahlo (Luigi), stepson Joseph Jr. Poirier (Maja) and daughter in-law Roxanne Kerschner (Alex).
Chris is predeceased by: her husband Joseph Poirier who she shared 40 years of marriage with prior to his passing in 2017; her parents Russell Norris Moulton and Loreen Jane Homer; her brothers Russell (Rocky) and Arthur (Art); her father-in-law William (Willy) Poirier; her mother-in-law Sabine Poirier; her brothers-in-law Ernest Poirier and Mike Body; her nephews Troy and Jeffrey Moulton and stepdaughter, Patricia Poirier Boulton & grand-daughter Miranda-Lynn Poirier.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fornasier and the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital for the kindness and support they provided to Chris, Christie and family during Chris’s last days battling liver disease. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
If desired, donations to honour Chris can be made to The Canadian Liver Foundation here, to Diabetes Canada here, or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation here.
