Cheri Baskey passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2026 at the age of 63.
Born in 1963, Cheri lived a life defined by strength, resilience, optimism, and love. Throughout her life, she faced extraordinary health challenges with courage and grace, never losing her ability to find hope, laughter, and joy. Even in the face of uncertainty, she looked ahead with determination, always focused on what came next and how to move forward. Her unwavering love for family and friends, her generous spirit, and her ability to find light in the darkest moments left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Cheri graduated from Centralia College of Agricultural Technology and began her career with the Province of Ontario in the 1980s. Over the years, she served in various roles within the Ministry of Community and Social Services, where her kindness, dedication, and mentorship left a lasting impact on both colleagues and clients. She remained deeply committed to her work until illness made it no longer possible.
Cheri loved spending time at the cabin she and Robin built and felt most at home outdoors—fishing, hiking, boating, or gathered around a campfire with those she loved. She was passionate about music and could often be found attending concerts, supporting local musicians, or hosting gatherings filled with live music, laughter, and friendship. She loved travelling, exploring new places, and making memories with family and friends.
A liver transplant recipient for 36 years, Cheri never lost sight of the extraordinary gift that organ donation gave her. She was a passionate advocate for organ and tissue donation and lived her life with profound gratitude for the decades she was given. Her life stands as a testament to the difference organ donation can make, and her family encourages others to consider registering as organ and tissue donors in her memory.
Cheri was predeceased by her beloved parents, Leo "Buck" Baskey and Irene Baskey, and her stepfather, Frank "Bud" Eveland.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Leo Baskey-Howard (Alyssa); her cherished grandson, Nash; her brothers, Ken Baskey (Galea) and Rick Baskey (Deb); her lifelong friend and former husband, Robin Howard; as well as her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many healthcare professionals who cared for Cheri throughout her journey, including her dialysis team and the staff at Victoria Hospital. Their compassion, dedication, and kindness meant more to Cheri and her family than words can express.
Cheri will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering belief that there was always a way forward. Her love, friendship, and generous spirit touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In keeping with Cheri's love of family, friendship, music, and gathering together, a Celebration of Life will be held in the near future. Details will be announced once arrangements have been finalized. Look for dragonflies, and you will find her there.
