Catherine (Cathy) Byers

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine (Cathy) Byers in Ottawa, ON, on June 3rd, 2025. Cathy passed peacefully in her sleep at Saint Patrick’s Home after a five-year battle with a rare neurological disorder.

 She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Morrison (Salim) and her two granddaughters Lina and Letta. She is survived by her sister Betty (Virgil) and brother Bob Byers (Pat). Cathy will be remembered by her nieces and nephews- Rob, Catherine, Karen, Debbie, George and Peter. Cathy was a widow of the late Stephen Foster Morrison (deceased 2017). 

Her strength, kind spirit, and resilience will live on in those whom she touched throughout her 30-year teaching career at Cundles Heights Public School in Barrie. A graduate of Sir Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, ON, her passion for teaching and education will be remembered by her many students and teacher friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Patrick's Home in Ottawa, ON, where the quality of her life drastically improved during her final months. Thank you to the many dedicated staff who cared for her and helped ease her pain. She is at peace now. 

Celebration of life is to take place in Barrie, ON at a later date.
