In Loving Memory of Catherine Ann "Cathy" Hammond

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Ann "Cathy" Hammond, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who left us peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and friends on March 15, 2024, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa.

Born on a crisp winter day in Arnprior on December 23, 1942, Cathy's warmth and kindness shone brightly throughout her life. She was the daughter of Bridget (Massey) and Sandy Presley and cherished wife of the late Jerome Hammond, who predeceased her in 2021, leaving a void that only her radiant spirit could fill.

Cathy's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted children, Kevin (Wanda), Trevor (Mary), and Melissa (Dan) who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She was an adoring grandmother to Taylor, Carson, Avaleigh, Ashley, Harrison, Myah, and Madisen, each of whom she supported with unwavering love and pride.

Cathy also leaves behind her beloved sisters and their families, who shared in the joys and sorrows of her life: Fern and Hubert Hutt, the late Joan and Gus Labrecque, Betty and the late Raymond Gagnon, Carmel and the late Tony Theelen, and Colleen and David Morin. The bond they shared was unbreakable, filled with memories that will continue to bring comfort and laughter in times of sorrow.

Cathy was the proud aunt to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A dedicated healthcare worker, Cathy spent over 25 years working at the call center at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, touching the lives of many with her compassion and care. In her final days, the outpouring of stories and visits from hospital staff, especially her Call Center peeps, was a testament to the indelible mark she left on her community. Cathy joined the Call Centre after a 35-year career with Bell Canada in Kingston.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the hospital's staff, particularly the ACE unit, for their exceptional care and kindness. A special note of thanks is directed to Michelle Dumont, Cathy’s dear friend and colleague, whose support was immeasurable during this difficult time.

Cathy's vibrant spirit was evident in her love for Christmas, her culinary expertise at family gatherings, and her charitable heart, notably through her support for children in need worldwide.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honour on April 20, 2024, at 11 AM at St Martin de Porres Church, 3891 Old Richmond Rd, Nepean, ON, followed by a reception in the church hall.

Cathy's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering support will continue to inspire and guide us. May her soul find eternal peace and her spirit continue to brighten the lives of those she touched.
