Carol possessed remarkable courage, grace and calmness. Her life philosophy was "Do the best you can".

Carol grew up in Hanover, Ontario, daughter of Lydia and Irvin Knechtel and sister of Kent Knechtel. Carol graduated from McMaster University BA Hon in 1946.

She was an avid and knowledgeable gardener and regularly attended theatre and concerts at the National Arts Centre. Carol was also an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women, Rideau Park United Church and PROBUS.

Carol is survived by six nieces and nephews, four great-nieces/nephews and three great-great-nieces/nephews.

Thanks to staff at Willowbend Retirement Community and Bayshore Home Health nurses for making Carol’s final days as comfortable as possible.

There will be no service or celebration of life. Donations can be made in Carol's memory to: Salvation Army, Canadian Red Cross or Canadian Federation of University Women Ottawa-Scholarship Trust Fund.
