Carlos Manuel Pinto

April 26, 1952 — September 24, 2025

Ottawa

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Carlos Pinto, a father, husband, and tenacious fighter, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. His life was defined not by the illness he endured, but by the strength with which he faced it—unyielding, determined, and deeply rooted in perseverance.

Carlos was a long-time employee of Air Canada, retiring in 2017.

For the past 15 years, he was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife, Janet Mahoney-Rose, whose support and dedication were a constant throughout his journey. Carlos is survived by his mother, Laurete, his three children—Melanie, Daniel (Laura), and Collin (Dana)—and four grandchildren Anthony, Isla, Angus and Max, who will remember his grit and quiet resolve.

Carlos was predeceased by his father Antonio and his brother Joseph.

Carlos was born in Portugal and immigrated to Canada at the age of ten years old with brother Joseph twelve years old, and his parent’s.

A man of the outdoors, Carlos found solace and strength in nature. He was an avid skier, boater, fisherman, and cherished time spent amongst the mountains forests, lakes and streams, where he felt most at peace. Even as Parkinson’s progressed, he remained deeply connected to the natural world, drawing strength from its stillness and beauty.

Carlos also was a member of the Ottawa and District Old Tyme Fiddler’s Clubs, he loved music and dancing and the Rideau Trail Hiking Club.

He also leaves behind the memory of a dear former friend, Eva, whose presence once played a meaningful role in his life journey.

Carlos Pinto’s story is one of endurance—a life lived with purpose, and a fight met with unwavering courage. His family honours his resilience and invites others to do the same.

A private Family Internment in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum at Hope Cemetery will be held in his honour.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations for Masses, Parkinson’s research and The Shepherd’s of Good Hope— causes close to Carlos’ heart.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Paula Smith and Dr. David Grimes for their compassionate and longtime care to Carlos. Also, his wonderful nurses for their compassionate care in the Geriateric’s ward in Carlos’ final Weeks.

The depths of sorrow we cannot tell

Of the loss of one we loved so well.

And while he sleeps a peaceful sleep,

His memory we shall always keep.
