Bruce Duncan Kinnear

February 9, 1951 — May 4, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we write this obituary.

Bruce was born in Montreal in 1951 and lived there until he moved to Gatineau/Ottawa about 12 years ago.

He is survived by children Amy (Chris Allen) Pugwash NS, Adam (Judy Kelly) Montreal QC, Amanda (Kansas, USA), and sister Marilyn (Ed Hannigan) Pugwash. He is also survived by grandchildren April, Christopher, Olivia, Ethan and Liam, and great-grandchildren James and Louise.

He was predeceased by his mother, Doreen (Kincaid) and father, Brian Kinnear.

Bruce worked hard all his life, starting as a bicycle delivery boy in NDG, briefly working at CPR Windsor Street station Montreal in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, to selling beer at the old Montreal Forum, and working and troubleshooting at Café Arret and Multiform kitchens.

He enjoyed curling and golf as a young man.

When he retired, he moved to Gatineau but could not sit still and so started working at Walmart. He enjoyed being around his younger co-workers and said he sometimes felt like their grandfather. He told the funniest stories of the many interesting customers he encountered. He was still working there when he passed on.

Bruce especially loved going to “The Island” north of Montreal with his extended family. This was a special place for him. He could enjoy the peace and quiet as he threw in a line, always hoping for the big one.

Bruce loved to fish and especially enjoyed his annual Fall salmon fishing trips to Nova Scotia, started in 1992 to Pugwash and the Wallace River. In later years his son Adam was able to accompany him. Bruce knew almost everyone on the river by name and they knew him. He could tell a funny tale about all of them. It won’t be the same without Bruce on the Wallace this October.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Walmart Breakfast Program for Kids or to a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place and there will be private family services later in all the places he loved.
