It is with deep sadness and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Bradley Gordon Walters, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with end-stage COPD.
Born on October 23, 1936, in Journois, Newfoundland and Labrador, Bradley was a kind, generous, and truly one-of-a-kind character. Known for his sharp wit, quirky humor, and quiet strength, he was always ready with a helping hand—and a joke or two. One of his favorite sayings was:“There’s no point to get older if you don’t get smarter.”
At the age of just 17, Bradley proudly joined the Canadian Army, where he served as a paratrooper, completing nearly 200 jumps during his military career. Though he served with dedication and pride, his heart never strayed far from home. After his time in the forces, he returned to Newfoundland — the place he dearly missed — to build a life close to the land and people he loved.
Bradley spent the remainder of his working life in the logging and mill industry, where he was known for his hard work, strong values, and deep connection to the natural world. Whether he was hunting, fishing, picking berries, or going on long walks to the "Gut Bridge" with his cherished dog of 20 years, Princess, Bradley found joy and peace in nature.
He is survived by his loving daughter Nina (Gilbert) Lasaga, and his adored grandchildren, Olivia and Sophie, who were the pride and joy of his life. Special gratitude is extended to his dear friend Ethel Spink, whose companionship brought him great happiness during the last decade of his life. He looked forward to her phone calls with great anticipation in his final months.
Bradley was predeceased by his parents, John and Maggie Walters (nee Bergeron), his brother Gordon, and three infant sisters.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the incredible nursing staff of Rideau One South Veterans Wing at the Perley Rideau for their care and compassion over the past 2 years, as well as to the staff at Montfort Hospital for their kindness in his final days.
In keeping with Bradley’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no visitation will be held. He will be laid to rest in Newfoundland next summer. In true Bradley fashion, his family plans to take his remains on a few vacations and scatter them in places he loved — a final adventure for a man who treasured the journey as much as the destination.
Bradley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory lives on in the stories, laughter, and lessons he left behind.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
