After a long battle with cancer, Bonnie passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026.
She is predeceased by husband Stephen William Raymond, parents John Carl Brady and Frances Margaret (Brooks) Lofthouse, and sister Elizabeth Ann Brady.
Devoted mother of Joseph and Christopher Raymond of Ottawa, ON, cherished sister of Brenda Giroux (Andre, deceased) of San Diego, CA, Beverlae Buckland (Doug, deceased) of Ottawa, ON, Barbara Drury (Greg) of Ladner BC Joseph Brady (Conni, deceased) of Lower Sackville, NS, and John Brady (Cathy) of Braeside, ON. Beloved aunt to nieces Bonnie Jo, Keri, Lisa, and Krista (deceased) and nephews Marc, Dan, Andy and Michael (deceased). She was also a great aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Bonnie always referred to herself as the “middle child” because she was the 4th daughter in a family of seven children. She was a quiet woman, humble and kind, thoughtful and generous. She had a great sense of humour and loved to dance, especially to her idol Tina.
In her quiet way, Bon was an excellent listener who could be trusted to never betray a confidence. She rarely offered advice but let you find your own answer as you sat at her kitchen table, sipping a cup of her delicious, perked coffee. Bon’s home was always the gathering place for family celebrations, most memorably Mom’s 80th birthday when all seven siblings honoured Mom with their presence.
For many years, Christmas Eve meant singing carols around Bon’s huge Christmas tree with a crackling wood fire in the fireplace, before savoring a delicious holiday buffet that included tourtiere pie and her famous meatballs. She was “a wannabe Italian,” whom sister Barb named the meatball queen. She will never be dethroned!
Bon had a passion for sports, especially the Blue Jays softball team. A memorable thrill for her was the year she and Steve drove to Florida for the Jays’ spring training. She knew all the players by name, her favourite player being Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In the winter months, she never missed an NFL game, especially when the Kansas City Chiefs were playing.
She loved summer holidays in the Maritimes and one summer, when the boys were young, shared a rented cottage in PEI with other siblings and their families. After she retired from the NRC Library, Bon and Steve made annual trips to Oak Island, NS., where they relaxed by the ocean.
Though she was an introvert, Bon had a secret wild side! She loved to drive fast, especially when she got behind the wheel of her first car, a red Pontiac Firebird. When she wasn’t driving in the fast lane, Bon’s favourite place to be was at home with her boys, watching her sports teams or the current episode of Coronation Street.
In her unassuming way, Bonnie truly was “Simply the Best.”
We will miss her. May she rest in peace.
