Beatrice Maria Dumbreck

October 26, 1941 — May 18, 2025

Cornwall, Ontario

Beatrice Maria Dumbreck born on October 26, 1941, in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away suddenly from lung Cancer on May 18, 2025, at the Cornwall Community Hospital, while holding her best friends hand, Sandra Fortier.

Beatrice was predeceased by her beloved husband William “Bill” Dumbreck; her cherished son, Ross Dumbreck, her brother John and her sister Loretta. She leaves behind her loving brother Rudi Caroll and his wife Patricia as well as her nieces, Claire and Joy, and her nephew Scott.

An exceptionally talented artist, Beatrice expressed her deep love for nature through her artwork, capturing beauty in the smallest details. She had a special passion for ceramics and was recognized for her extraordinary ability to turn the ordinary into something unforgettable. She had made a ceramic replica of a crumpled lunch bag, as thin as a piece of paper and a group of Ross’s friends were convinced it was garbage- until Ross proudly revealed, “That’s my Mom’s work.” They were floored. It was a moment that perfectly reflected her talent, precision, and quiet sense of humour.

Beatrice affectionately known as “Mrs. D.” by the tight-knit group of friends who often gathered at her home, was more than a mother figure—she was a friend, a guide, and a steady presence. She embraced the joyful chaos of noisy jam sessions, offered wise words over endless cups of tea, and had a way of making everyone feel welcome yet gently kept everyone in line. Her sense of humour was golden, her warmth unmatched, and her encouragement of others’ creativity left a lasting impact.

She had a generous spirit and a big heart—especially for animals. A devoted dog lover, she always made room in her life for a four legged companion when she could. Whether it was gourmet dinner at her table—complete with steak and scampi—or quiet moments crafting, Beatrice lived life with grace, courage and intention. She never wished to be a burden and remained active and independent, always creating, always caring.

Those who were lucky enough to know her had their lives enriched in one way or another. Her memory lives on in her art, in the stories she shared over tea and in the heart of all who loved her.

Beatrice was ready. This life was getting too heavy for her heart. The loss of Bill (her husband) then Ross (her son). That was just too much for her. Now in the hopes of our faith, we pray she has been reunited with her two greatest loves. You will never be forgotten B.

Death is strange, To some its peace, An escape from the pain. To others it is pain, The loss of someone they love. We understand its presence, But not its timing. We accept its certainty But not its cruelty. And maybe Thats the hardest part. Not that death comes,  But that it never asks, Who is ready.  Poet unknown.
