It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Mary Ellison, who left us peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Barb was born on February 1, 1946, in London, England, and spent her life nurturing and caring for others—as a devoted nurse and as a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her compassion, warmth, and thoughtfulness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving husband Jack Osuchowski, her cherished children Jane Snow (Mark Snow) and Chris Ellison (Cristina Toth) and her adored grandchildren, Avalon, Milla, Micheal and Alexis, all of whom were the light of her life. Barb leaves behind her brothers Graham Heath (Lillian) and Bob Heath (Heather Heath), and her sister Denise Lee (Mike Millius). She also leaves behind her dear feline companion, Miss Kitty, as well as many extended family members and treasured friends.
Barb was predeceased by her parents, Joan and Charles Heath, along with her siblings Michael, Terry, and Susan. All having fought the same courageous battle of ALS, will now welcome her with open arms.
Known to her grandchildren as "Grammy Barbie or Grammy," Barb had a deep love for gardening, reading, and traveling. She was famous among her family for her frequent and enthusiastic weather updates—a simple, endearing ritual that kept everyone connected and reminded them to take notice of the world around them. To her friends at Ritchie's, remember:.. “When in doubt, throw it out.”
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff at The Rideau Palliative Care Group and Bayshore Home Health throughout her journey. To the many friends and supporters who stood by Barb with love and encouragement throughout her illness, your kindness brought immense comfort.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory may be made to the ALS Society of Canada , supporting research and care for others facing this disease.
Barb’s legacy of family, tradition, love, humor, and quiet strength will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
