It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Audus Robert Earl Wright, better known as George, at the age of 86, of Barrie, Ontario on the 20th of April, 2024 after a long Illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (nee Woodrow) his son Terry, and daughter in law, Suzanne Park. Audus was predeceased by his parents Mason and Eileen Wright, and siblings Alton Wright, and Tanis Greenside.
Audus was dubbed "George", by the manager of Woolworths who could never remember his name, and the name stuck. George then joined the LCBO in Barrie, and went on to become the manager of the Markdale and Huntsville stores. After retiring, George worked for a local Barrie funeral home for a dozen years before retiring a second time. He had a love of model trains and historic cars. For many years he was a member of the Barrie Vintage Car Club and would be seen driving his 1940 Packard around town. George also had a soft spot for cats, and his dear Butts the Cat, is missing him.
Never short on wit and charm, he possessed a wicked sense of humour that will be missed by all.
George will be buried at a private ceremony at the Knox Presbyterian Cemetery (1604 Line 9 North, Oro-Medonte) at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024 followed by a Celebration of Life afterwards at Basic Funerals, 152 Bradford Street, Barrie L4N 3B5 from 12 PM to 2 PM.
