Audrey Joan Cain (née Stebbings), aged 92, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Born on Christmas Day 1933, in Barrie, Audrey lived a life defined by resilience, compassion, and dedication to her community. Audrey was the loving mother of Patricia Cain,Paul Cain (Margot), and Michael Cain (Laurie). She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She was a loyal friend whose kindness touched all who knew her. Audrey was predeceased by her parents and all nine of her siblings, marking the end of an era for her family.
A survivor of polio, Audrey faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength and positivity. She became a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities and dedicated much of her time volunteering with Children’s Aid, seniors, and students with special needs. Audrey was an avid reader and loved card games, especially euchre and bridge. Her enduring commitment extended to the March of Dimes/Post Polio Program as a long-term volunteer.
Audrey also contributed to her community through her involvement with Rebekah’s Lodge #190 in Barrie. Faith was a cornerstone of Audrey’s life. She was a parishioner at St. George’s Anglican Church in Barrie for many years and also attended First Baptist Church during another period of her life. Her spiritual devotion provided her with strength and purpose.
Audrey will be remembered for her ability to see the good in everyone she met and for the kindness she shared generously. Friends and family will remember her as someone who was always laughing and smiling. Her legacy is one of compassion, perseverance, and selfless service that touched countless lives. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Reverend Donna and the staff at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf for their care during Audrey’s final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to your charity of choice.
