Following a long, happy and well-lived life, Arthur Robichaud died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026 at the age of 99, six months shy of his 100th birthday.
Born in Saint John, N.B., on Aug. 12, 1926, Arthur moved to Toronto as a young man where he enjoyed a career in the hotel and hospitality industry for many years. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
After living independently well into his senior years, Arthur became a resident of Fudger House, a Toronto long-term care residence known for its supportive LGBTQ2S+ programming and community, where he was treated with immaculate care and unconditional love.
In a 2023 CTV News story on Toronto Pride celebrations, Arthur related how he moved to Toronto in his 20s and had called the city, and Fudger House, home ever since.
"[Toronto] changed my life," he said in an interview. "I'll never regret coming here."
To celebrate Pride month that year, Fudger House’s 228 residents were invited to several events, including a Pride barbeque, drag bingo and performances, LGBTQ2S+-themed movie nights, and joint parties with the non-profit organization, The 519.
Arthur partook in the Toronto Pride Parade alongside staff and volunteers from the home, joining 140 long-term care residents from across Toronto, their family members, staff, volunteers and community members, to form the Senior Services and Long-Term Care (SSLTC) Pride contingent.
Arthur did not abandon his Maritime roots, paying occasional visits home to Saint John. Another Saint John link was his second cousin and fellow Port City native Jeffrey Ougler, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. Arthur enjoyed many phone and, later, video chats with Jeffrey and his wife, Cindy, as well as letter exchanges.
Arthur was a testament to the value of achieving good health and long life through regular exercise and maintaining a positive attitude. Jeffrey and Cindy would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Fudger House, especially Zabeena Mohamed, for their professionalism and kindness.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Basic Funerals. Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date.
For those who wish, donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to Fudger House.
