Tony Bailetti passed away, leaving a profound and lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments, but for the countless lives he touched through his teaching, mentorship, and unwavering generosity of spirit.

Tony discovered his passion for teaching in 1976 at the University of Manitoba, before joining the business school at Carleton University in July 1979. During his 47 years at Carleton, he fell in love with Ottawa, a city that became his home and held a special place in his heart.

He believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives. A steadfast advocate for inclusion and opportunity, he was especially committed to helping students and newcomers find their footing in unfamiliar environments. His work with Technology Innovation Management (TIM) students and immigrants reflected his patience, respect, and constant encouragement. To many, he was not only a professor, but a steady guide and trusted mentor.

Beyond his academic calling, Tony was a devoted partner, a loving father, and a proud grandfather.

He is survived by his four children, who carry forward his values and memory: Marco, Katia, and Eduardo Bailetti, and Sean O'Connor, along with their partners, Annick Gillard-Bailetti, Danny Christopher, Malorie McHaffie, Kate Rexe, and Anahita Yadegari. He was a deeply proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy: Kalah Christopher, Faron Christopher, Asher O’Connor, Alejandro Bailetti, Siona Christopher, Evelyn O’Connor, Damian Bailetti, and Liora Christopher. He is also survived by his younger brother, Alberto Bailetti, Alberto’s wife, Elisa Frayssinet de Bailetti, and their children, Gabriel, Martin, Miguel, María Belén, and María Lucía.

On November 9, 1948, Antonio José Eduardo Bailetti Wiese was born to María Elena Wiese Bailetti (also an educator) and Colonel José Bailetti McKee on the side of a road in Huancayo, in the Peruvian Andes. At 17, he earned a Fulbright scholarship and moved to the United States to study at the University of Cincinnati. Shortly after, he met Anne Marie Bourgeois, who welcomed him into the Bourgeois family and became his life partner.

Tony’s memory lives on through his family, friends, colleagues, and the many students and immigrants whose lives he touched and transformed. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Your presence, support, and sentiments are deeply appreciated by the family.

For those who feel moved to honour Tony’s memory, donations may be made to Plan International Canada (https://plancanada.ca/en-ca/donate), a charity he supported and strongly believed in.
