In Loving Memory of Andy Magis 1944-2023

Sadly Andy Magis, age 79, passed away peacefully at 9:58 am on May 28, 2023 at Ottawa General hospital, 8th floor, west wing due to complications with metastatic lung cancer. Andy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 9, 1944. Andy loved life and the love of his life was his beloved wife Anita (Paluck) Magis, who preceded him in death in 2004.  Andy and Anita hosted many social events, Halloween parties were their favorite. Andy and Anita keenly searched out their best costumes for the occasion.

Andy was a friend to many people due to his adventurous and outgoing personality.  He loved new challenges like learning to downhill ski at 29 years old and tackling the famous "Zoomer" hill at Edelweiss ski resort. Andy loved sports, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets were two of his favorite teams. His annual weekend trip to Montreal to see Winnipeg Blue Bombers with his friends Brian and Bruce was a must. As was going to see the Winnipeg Jets in Ottawa with brother-in-law Mario.

Andy was an avid golf player, searching out new courses to play locally. After the game Local Heroes was his favorite place to wind down and enjoy pleasant conversations with friends and patrons.  He loved music, Jethro Tull was his favorite artist. He was a drummer in a band in the early sixties, a group called the Skeptics. Andy was passionate about his menu of electronic systems, and he was one of the first to purchase the Adams and Commodore 64 computer and of course the huge Galaxy satellite dish that was installed in his back yard.

Andy spent many years on the road teaching Ottawa area citizens how to drive. He was an excellent driving instructor as demonstrated by the many licensed drivers on the road today and the numerous letters, cards, and small personal notes of thanks sent to Andy from students. Andy served in the Canadian forces and served his community by volunteering for many charitable events such as the annual Christmas dinner for the homeless.

Andy leaves behind his parents (predeceased) Dan and Anna (Gwozdecki) Magis, brother Danny (Irene) Magis, sister Darlene (Joe) Lesiuk, cousin William (Valerie) Kuz, cousins, nieces and nephews, father- in-law Joseph Levis Mario (predeceased) and mother-in-law Ann (Ricmond) Paluck (predeceased).
