Allan Neil MacLeod

September 1, 1939 — May 13, 2025

North York

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Allan “Mac” Neil MacLeod. Allan passed peacefully on May 13, 2025, surrounded by family, at the age of 85.

Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on September 1, 1939, Allan lived a life rooted in service, compassion, and quiet strength. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) at the age of 19 and served proudly as a Sergeant for 36 years.

During his time in the RCAF, Allan served as part of Search and Rescue, a role that spoke to his steady courage and unwavering commitment to helping others. His military service also afforded him the opportunity to travel and live abroad, including France, Germany and Sardinia —experiences that broadened his perspective and filled his life with lasting memories.

Allan had a deep love for basketball and found his calling in exercise and coaching. A devoted Boston Celtics fan, he was both a player and coach during his time stationed at Chatham, 4 Wing, Comox, and Winnipeg. He passed on every lesson he learned about sports and about life - a purpose that brought immeasurable joy to himself and those lucky enough to listen.

Allan had a lifelong appreciation for jazz, and his home was often filled with its smooth, soulful sounds. He was also an avid reader. His home was lined with bookshelves, each packed with a wide range of titles that reflected his love of history, biographies and classic literature.

Allan is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Cheryl (née Tanner), his daughters Daylene (David) Lauckner and Tanysse (Dave) MacLeod; 6 grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa) MacLeod, Kevin Letwyn, Trevor MacLeod, Brock, Rory and Max Lauckner; 3 great-grandchildren, Christopher James, Allan and Flora Luna; Sister in-laws Nicole (David) Grant and Michelle (Dave) Dupont.

In keeping with his wishes, the family will not be holding a formal funeral service or memorial. Those who wish to honor Allan’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to the Salvation Army and/or to the Royal Canadian Air Force Cadets in his name.

Allan’s legacy is one of kindness, encouragement, and love. He had a unique gift for helping others believe in themselves, often putting their needs above his own. His life leaves a lasting impact on innumerable lives, a rippling effect of kind-hearted cool and calm that has transcended into other families and will continue on for generations. He leaves behind an irreplaceable space in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
