Alice May East

Alice "May" East passed away peacefully at hospice in Barrie on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Loving wife of the late David East. Beloved Mom to Sue (Dan), Ted, Tom (Brenda) and Francine.  Wonderful Nanny to Amanda Bennett, Darren East, Rebecca East, Lee Jeakins, Geordie Jeakins and Max East, and great grandmother to Briar and Miles.  She was 94 and will be sadly missed.

May was born and raised on Spring Valley Hereford Farm in Appleton, Ontario to William Thomas and Florence James. She was a dear sister to Blanche Dezell (deceased), Mack James(deceased), Robert James (deceased), Russell James (deceased in WWII), and Irene Baldock, who will miss her deeply, as will her sisters-in-law, Lois James and Lorraine East. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, as well as her in-laws, Reg and Donna East and Rose and Frank Turton.

Everyone had great admiration for her gentle nature, incredible intelligence, and her many talents. She made the best Halloween costumes! No one could beat her at Scrabble. Her historical knowledge was immense. She could have been a professor. She raised her family through a number of Air Force postings, her favourite one being three years in Fontainbleau, France.

At her request, there will be no service. Donations in memory of May can be made to the Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, who provided such care and kindness.
