Alexej Emanuel Lanyi

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alexej (Alex) Emanuel Lanyi on September 10, 2024, in Ottawa, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family. 

Born in Nitra, Czechoslovakia, Alex is predeceased by his parents Armand Lanyi and Viola (Lola) Erdesz as well as his sisters Marian and Olga. His memory is carried on by the love of his life, Marie Louise, with whom he shared 70 wonderful years of marriage. 

Alex was the proud father of Danielle and Richard, daughter-in-law, Leslie, and remained close to his former son-in-law, Denys. He was a devoted and doting grandfather to Brett, Travis, Wesley, Claire, and Stephen, and a loving great-grandfather to Ella, Raina, Charlie, Joey, Rosie and Lola. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

 A hardworking and dedicated professional, Alex was at the forefront of manufacturing the first printed circuit boards in Canada during his time at Canadian Marconi. Beyond his professional achievements, Alex had many passions, including a love of sailing—especially with his grandchildren—playing tennis, cooking, traveling and photography as well as enjoying coffee and dessert at his favorite café in Ottawa's ByWard Market. Known for his generous spirit, he was always there to lend a helping hand. 

Alex is also survived by his nieces, nephews, friends, and his very dear cousin Vera.

 A private celebration of Alex’s life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Alex’s memory to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of 6 East at the Ottawa General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
