In Loving Memory of Alexandra Rose “Sandy” Lascu
July 11, 1969–July 31, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the passing of Alexandra Rose Lascu, affectionately known as Sandy, who left us peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 56. She was surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
Sandy was the beloved wife of Eduard “Eddie” Lascu, and a devoted mother to Carol Alexandru “Alex”, David Andrei, Matei Stephan, and Maya Iris Lascu.
She is survived by her cherished parents, Maria Carmela “Mary” and Carmel “Charlie” Buhagiar; her loving siblings, James and Karl; her dear sister-in-law Chrysilla, whom she loved like a sister; her beloved niece Lisa and nephew Isaac; and her mother-in-law Victoria Mateuca (predeceased by Alexandru Lascu and Eugen Aristide Mateuca). She is also survived by her brother-in-law Francisc Petre Lascu, her loyal dog Ruby who never left her side, and many caring aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, each of whom carries a piece of her light.
Sandy was born in Toronto and moved to Malta at the age of six with her parents. Sandy was always keen to go to the beach and took care of her little brothers. Sandy returned to Toronto at the age of eighteen, determined to forge a life of her own. She built a vibrant community around her and had an inspiring career in the media industry, where she worked for over 20 years as a respected and dynamic manager. Her work spanned across Canada and internationally, encompassing a variety of projects and roles that showcased her leadership and visionary spirit.
Sandy was a woman of deep passions. She was fashionable and always put together, had a vast shoe collection, loved food and art, championed local galleries, and had a special eye for interior design, transforming countless spaces into reflections of beauty and personality. She took pride in her home and found joy in music, gardening, and travel. Her zest for life was contagious to all who knew her.
A devoted Catholic, Sandy lived her life guided by steadfast faith, integrity, and compassion. She gave generously of herself without ever seeking anything in return, whether through her charitable endeavors, her recent service as Treasurer at her daughter’s school, or simply by being a loyal friend and a thoughtful listener. Her selflessness shone through especially in her volunteer work, where she dedicated countless hours to the Daily Bread Food Bank, sorting food and helping in the kitchen.
To her husband Eddie, she was a true partner, caring, supportive, adventurous, and steadfast in love.
To her children, she was more than a mother; she was a fierce protector, and a constant source of love, humor, and wisdom. She raised her children with tough love, always grounded in unwavering commitment and high expectations. Through her guidance, she tried to teach them resilience, discipline, compassion, and the core values of hard work, independence, and humility.
Sandy was the glue that held people together, the one you could call at any hour, the one who made you laugh, who told the truth when it mattered, and who never let you walk alone. She touched more lives than can be counted, and her impact will continue to ripple through generations.
Despite her long illness, Sandy was never defined by cancer. Rather, it brought into sharper focus the incredible strength, grace, and optimism that were already within her. She fought for her family with everything she had, and she will forever be our hero.
Sandy wanted her life to be celebrated, not with sadness, but with joy. She hoped we’d remember the love she gave, the laughter she sparked, and the light she brought into every moment.
May she rest in eternal peace, welcomed by family and friends who have passed before her with trumpets and angels, embraced in the presence of the divine.
